"She certainly has travelled a long way since those early days as a budding Gaelic singer. She has endeared herself to television audiences throughout Britain by her sensitive singing and friendly personality: her concert appearances have ranged from Brechin to Brighton, from Ardnamurchan to America; on her previous recordings she has sung songs in many styles and in several languages.

Anne Lorne Gillies returns home on this album - home to the songs of Scotland, the songs her audiences love to hear wherever she goes. All the favourites are here - from the haunting pipe-tunes of Dark Island and Banks of Sicily to beloved gems like Bonnie Gallawa' and Dark Lochnagar sparkling here in their brand new settings.

More modern Scots songs are well-represented - from the lyrical Land For All Seasons and Roddy MacMillan's Farewell My Love (already ranking among the classics) to Anne's own compositions, including the beautiful Hills of Lorne written to a Scots fiddle tune. And yet these new songs hang like pearls on a thread alongside the centuries-old Gaelic piper's warning Woman of the Glen 'tis time you arose which heralds the bleak song on the Massacre of Glencoe - or beside the delightful cameo of yesteryear Think on Me. Every song is arranged with the same sense of style and modern awareness, and all are sung with an expressive delicacy which creates a mood of intimacy and enhances each word of every lyric."
